This information is important to those who want to understand how early-stage ventures grow so that their accelerator programs and investment funds can be tailored to provide the optimum support for entrepreneurs.

Incentivizing Entrepreneurs with Regular Drawings

If you are an entrepreneur who has provided data to the Entrepreneurship Database Program - THANKS! None of this is possible without the time you take to provide accurate data about your ventures.

Our next drawing for the $5,000 cash awards will take place on January 15, 2020. We will immediately reach out to the lucky winners and confirm their acceptance of the award. We anticipate making an announcement to all eligible ventures by mid-February 2020.

Will my information be kept completely private?

Yes. This research is being conducted by Emory University and the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE). All information gathered will be held by the Social Enterprise @ Goizueta Program at Emory University. Know that all of your information will be kept completely confidential. The studies and reports that are made public as part of the program will never divulge any information that will make it possible to identify you or your venture.

My CEO is out of town, can anyone complete this survey?

Yes! Anyone with access to your ventures historic and financial information is able to complete the survey.

Things keep going to my old e-mail address. How do I update my info?

In order to have your most up to date contact information on file, feel free to email edp@gbs.emory.edu with the subject line “Update Contact Info”. Please be sure to include your first and last name, venture name and your prior email address.

Does this database provide grants or scholarships?

Twice a year, we select four ventures who provided us data to receive $5,000 USD each in incentives funding. These entrepreneurs are picked randomly from among all entrepreneurs who provided us with application or follow-up data within that period. Each year, we provide $40,000 in total. We do not provide any scholarships, investments, or merit-based grants.

What is my time commitment to the database?

You will receive two invitations a year to complete a follow-up survey on your venture’s progress. On average, it takes an entrepreneur 7-10 minutes to complete one follow-up survey.

I don’t want to provide my financial information. Is there a way to opt out?

If at any point you no longer wish to participate in the research, please email us at edp@gbs.emory.edu with the subject line “Opt Out.” We will remove you from future studies.

Please note, however, that any information you provide is completely confidential. If you choose to provide financial information, that is kept confidential and securely held at Emory University. If you have specific concerns we could address so that you may continue in the research, please let us know.

I have since shut down my venture that went through the accelerator. Can I submit my data for my new venture?

Our research is tied to a venture’s progress. Though we are excited that you have started a new venture and wish you the best of luck, we can only accept information from the specific venture under which you were accelerated. If your venture has closed, please let us know, and we will no longer ask for further information on the progress of the business.

I am no longer with the venture that participated in the accelerator. Can I suggest a new contact?

Yes. In order to have a venture’s most up to date contact information on file, feel free to email edp@gbs.emory.edu with the subject line “Update Venture Info”. Please be sure to include your first name, last name, venture name, and the new contact’s information (including first name, last name, and email address).

How often are winners randomly chosen for the incentive payments?

Twice a year, we select four ventures who provided us data to receive $5,000 USD each.  Each year, we provide a total of $40,000 USD.

Can I enter the drawing more than once?

In any given period that you respond, your entries will only count once. However, the more you respond over time, the more entries you will have overall.

Can I see my survey results?

Yes. Once you have completed the survey, you will see a “Thank You” screen with an option to save your responses. This link will generate a PDF which will have all of your survey results.

My company has since shut down,. How can I stop receiving emails?

In order to have your ventures most up to date status on file, feel free to email edp@gbs.emory.edu with the subject line “Update Venture Status”. Please be sure to include your first name, last name, venture name and a confirmation that your venture is no longer in business. If possible, please let us know an approximate date that the venture closed.

What is the relation of Emory to the Accelerator I attended / applied to?

Emory University’s Goizueta Business School is home to the Social Enterprise @ Goizueta Center and the Entrepreneurship Database Program. The EDP partners directly with accelerators around the world to gather information from the entrepreneurs who apply to their programs. Then, we resurvey those entrepreneurs every six months, including those who received support and those who were not selected. Using the information we gather, we provide statistical reports to the accelerators we assist to evaluate and improve the support they provide to entrepreneurs.

How can I learn more about how my data is being used?

To find more in-depth information about our research purpose and insights, please visit our research page.

How long does the survey take?

We track the experience of the more than 19,000 entrepreneurs currently in our database. For those who are completing application surveys, the average is between 20-30 minutes. For those completing follow-up surveys, the average is 7-10 minutes.

I did not participate in any accelerator. Should I still take the survey?

Yes. The survey is designed to collect data from entrepreneurs who either were

a) accepted into an accelerator program or

b) applied to an accelerator program but did not receive any form of support.

If one of these two conditions is true, please complete the survey. If you feel you received the email in error, please email us at edp@gbs.emory.edu.
